Terms of Service

By creating an account or submitting a claim, you agree to these terms.

We are not a law firm

We are not lawyers, nor are we affiliated with major labels, distributors, or any industry gatekeepers. We do not provide legal services, legal advice, or legal representation. No attorney-client relationship is created by using MIC.

No obligation to respond

We have no obligation to read, investigate, respond to, act on, or escalate any claim. We may decline any claim for any reason.

Mental Health Disclaimer

We are not mental health professionals. We do not provide mental health services, counseling, or treatment. We do not handle mental health claims or crises. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, or any mental health crisis, contact a mental health professional immediately or reach out to:

Your mental health is critical. We are not equipped to help with it.

What MIC is NOT: Distributor customer support

MIC is not customer support for distribution platforms like DistroKid, AWAL, United Masters, CD Baby, Tunecore, Amuse, or similar services. If you have an account issue, payment problem, upload error, or technical support need with a distributor, contact their support team directly — we cannot help.

Examples of out-of-scope issues:

  • "DistroKid won't upload my song"
  • "My AWAL advance payment is missing"
  • "United Masters isn't responding to my support ticket"
  • General technical or billing questions with any DSP or distributor

In-scope: Issues like "DistroKid took 40% of my royalties and never disclosed it" (contract/terms dispute) or "AWAL promised me an advance and never paid" (unpaid promise). But day-to-day customer support? Not us.

Anonymous data collection & market research

To better understand industry patterns, MIC may occasionally conduct anonymous polls within the platform ("Which distributor do you use?", "How satisfied are you with your publisher?", etc.). Your responses help us build market intelligence.

Important: We never tie poll responses to your profile or real identity. Answers are completely anonymous. Aggregate, anonymized insights may be used to identify patterns or support advocacy, but never in a way that identifies you personally.

Participation in polls is optional. By answering, you allow MIC to use the anonymized response for research and advocacy.

Profile data and why we collect it

  • Date of birth: Helps us understand if certain issues affect different career stages or age groups differently.
  • Gender: Gender disparities are real in music. We need to see them to advocate for change.
  • Ethnicity: Racial and cultural barriers in music are documented. Understanding who's affected helps us push for systemic solutions.
  • Sexuality: LGBTQ+ creators face specific challenges in the industry. Knowing this helps us identify and address them.
  • Religion: Religious identity can affect access to opportunities, networks, and safety in music communities. Understanding this helps us identify faith-based barriers.
  • Location: Geography affects opportunity and support networks. We need to see where issues are concentrated.
  • Year started: Early-career folks face different barriers than veterans.
  • Industry role: Different roles (artist, producer, engineer) face different systemic issues.

Safety & authority referrals

If your claim involves sexual abuse, violence, threats, or domestic abuse, we listen — but we refer you to authorities. We do not handle abuse cases. If you describe sexual assault or violence in your claim, we will recommend you contact local law enforcement or the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233 in the US). Your safety comes first; we are not equipped to investigate or respond to abuse claims.

Prohibited content

You may not submit slander, defamation, prejudice, discrimination, threats, incitement to violence, or harassment. Claims containing prohibited content may be removed and the account banned.

Your responsibility for accuracy

You certify that everything you submit is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge. You are solely responsible for the content of your submissions.

Collection services

We do not collect money on your behalf. We may refer you to independent partners who offer collection or recovery services. Those partners are separate businesses and we make no guarantee of any outcome.

Privacy of claims

Claims are private to the person who filed them. They are not published and are not shared with anyone named in them. Our team may access claims for moderation and referral only. Claimants are anonymized by default in our admin panel. Revealing an identity requires a deliberate action, and that access is logged.

Retention and deletion requests

MIC stores your account, profile, claims, and related data indefinitely unless you request deletion. You can submit a deletion request from your dashboard and must provide a reason for our team to review. Approved requests are processed as permanent deletion.

No contact with third parties

We do not contact people or organizations mentioned in your claim.

How We Use and Share Claims Data

Your claim is confidential between you and MIC. However, MIC may, at its sole discretion, share aggregate patterns, anonymized data, or general findings with industry entities, organizations, or individuals who claims have been made against—where we believe it serves the public interest or helps identify systemic issues.

We will never:

  • Share your name or personally identifiable information
  • Disclose situational details that could identify you as the complainant
  • Attribute any claim to you directly
  • Contact anyone on your behalf without your explicit permission (per our "No Contact" policy above)

If we ever use a claim in our research or outreach, it will be fully anonymized. You have the right to request, before we share anything, exactly what information will be disclosed and to whom.

Our intention is not to sell data. However, if we believe we can share anonymized data with companies making positive change in the music industry, that will be a transparent community discussion. If our privacy policy changes, you will receive a minimum of 30 days notice via email and the opportunity to opt out. You can opt out now using our contact form.
